Recycling vs. Junk Removal: What You Need to Know
You want to get rid of stuff, but you also don't want to send recyclable materials to the landfill. Here's what actually gets recycled in Toledo, what doesn't, and how junk removal fits in.
What Toledo Curbside Recycling Accepts
Toledo's curbside program (blue bin) accepts:
- Paper, cardboard (flattened), newspapers, magazines
- Plastic bottles and containers (#1-#7)
- Aluminum and steel cans
- Glass bottles and jars
What Curbside Recycling Does NOT Accept
- Furniture, mattresses, appliances
- Electronics (TVs, computers, phones)
- Construction debris (wood, drywall, concrete)
- Tires, auto parts
- Textiles and clothing (donate instead)
- Styrofoam, plastic bags, bubble wrap
Where Junk Removal Comes In
For items too big for curbside pickup, you have three options:
- Drop-off recycling centers: Free or low-cost, but you do all the hauling and sorting yourself. Toledo has the Hoffman Road Landfill & Recycling Center
- Specialty recycling: Electronics go to e-waste recyclers. Scrap metal goes to scrapyards. Tires go to tire recyclers. Each requires a separate trip
- Junk removal: We do the hauling, sorting, and proper disposal. Items that can be recycled or donated get separated from landfill-bound waste
How We Handle Disposal
When we pick up your junk, it doesn't all go to the same place:
- Donatable items: Furniture and goods in usable condition go to local charities (Habitat ReStore, Goodwill, Salvation Army)
- Scrap metal: Appliances, metal furniture, and metal debris go to the scrapyard for recycling
- Electronics: Properly recycled through e-waste facilities — we never send electronics to the landfill
- Clean concrete/brick: Goes to aggregate recyclers who crush it for road base material
- Everything else: Goes to the appropriate waste facility. We follow all local disposal regulations
The Bottom Line
You don't have to choose between recycling and junk removal — we do both. Our crew sorts as we load, separating recyclables and donatables from genuine waste. You get a clean space without the guilt of sending everything to the landfill.
