Your new fridge is getting delivered tomorrow and the old one needs to go. Or the washer finally died and it’s sitting in the laundry room taking up space. Here’s how to get rid of old appliances in Toledo without breaking your back or the law.
Delivery Haul-Away
If you’re buying a new appliance, ask the delivery team to haul away the old one. Most retailers (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy) offer this for $15-30 per appliance when they deliver the replacement. This is the easiest option by far.
Scrap Metal Recycling
Old appliances have scrap metal value. If you can get them to a scrap yard, you might actually get paid:
- Washer/Dryer: $8-15 each at current scrap prices
- Stove/Oven: $10-20
- Refrigerator: $15-25 (but the refrigerant must be professionally recovered first)
- Water heater: $8-15
Toledo-area scrap yards: Toledo Metal Recycling, Midwest Iron & Metal, ABC Metals. Call ahead for current prices and requirements.
Refrigerant Warning
Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units contain refrigerant (Freon) that must be professionally recovered before disposal. Releasing refrigerant is a federal violation (Clean Air Act) with fines up to $44,539 per day. Scrap yards won’t accept units with refrigerant. We handle proper refrigerant recovery as part of our removal service.
