Getting rid of a mattress is one of those tasks that seems simple until you try it. It won’t fit in your car, the dump charges extra, and you can’t just leave it on the curb in most Toledo neighborhoods. Here are your actual options.
Option 1: Toledo Curbside Bulk Pickup
Toledo offers scheduled bulk item pickup for residents. You need to call Republic Services (your waste hauler) and schedule a pickup date. Mattresses are accepted, but:
- There may be a 2-4 week wait depending on the season
- You get 2-4 bulk items per pickup (varies by plan)
- The mattress must be wrapped in plastic — this is for bedbug prevention
- Set it out by 6am on your scheduled day
Option 2: Drop Off at the Transfer Station
The Lucas County Transfer Station (5385 N. Detroit Ave) accepts mattresses. Fees apply ($10-15 per mattress). You’ll need a truck or trailer since they won’t fit in most cars.
Option 3: Donate It
If your mattress is in good condition (no stains, tears, or sagging), some organizations accept donations:
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore — accepts clean mattresses in good condition
- Furniture Bank of Toledo — distributes to families in need
- Most organizations will not accept mattresses with stains, odors, or bed bug history
Option 4: Call Us
We pick up mattresses (and box springs) every day. No wrapping needed. No scheduling weeks out. No borrowing a truck.
- Single mattress: $59-79 (includes pickup and disposal)
- Mattress + box spring: $89-109
- Multiple mattresses: Discounted per-item rate
- Same-day or next-day pickup available
- We haul it out of whatever room it’s in — upstairs, basement, wherever
What NOT to Do
- Don’t dump it illegally. Mattresses dumped on vacant lots or alleys in Toledo result in fines up to $500
- Don’t burn it. Mattress materials release toxic fumes and it’s illegal in city limits
- Don’t leave it at a dumpster that isn’t yours — that’s illegal dumping too
