You’ve got a big cleanout project and you’re trying to decide: rent a dumpster or hire junk removal? The answer depends on three things: how much stuff, how much time, and whether you want to do the lifting yourself.
Dumpster Rental
- Cost: $300–550 for a 10–20 yard dumpster for 7 days in Toledo
- Best for: renovation debris, long-term projects, situations where you’re generating waste over several days
- You handle: all the loading yourself. Carrying, lifting, throwing it all in
- Drawbacks: permit needed if it goes on the street ($50 in Toledo). Overfill fees. Weight limits. Can damage your driveway. Takes up space for a week
Junk Removal
- Cost: $150–600 depending on volume (roughly by truckload fractions)
- Best for: one-time cleanouts, heavy items (appliances, furniture, mattresses), situations where you can’t or don’t want to do the lifting
- We handle: all the loading, hauling, and disposal/recycling/donation sorting
- Drawbacks: you need to have everything ready when we arrive (or pay for us to sort it)
The Math
For a typical garage cleanout (about half a dumpster worth of stuff):
- Dumpster rental: $350 + your weekend of labor
- Junk removal: $250–350 + zero labor from you
Junk removal is usually the same price or cheaper for one-time jobs because you’re not paying for 7 days of dumpster rental when you only need 2 hours.
