The garage sale is over. You made $140 and there’s still a driveway full of stuff nobody wanted. Now what?
Sort Into Three Piles
Donate
Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity ReStore all accept furniture, clothing, housewares, and working electronics. Most will pick up large items for free if you schedule it. In Toledo:
- Goodwill: drop off anytime during store hours. No appointment needed for small loads
- Salvation Army: call to schedule a free pickup for furniture and appliances
- Habitat ReStore: accepts building materials, cabinets, appliances, and furniture. Free pickup available
Get a receipt for tax deductions. A truckload of donated items can be worth $200–500 in deductions.
Curb Alert
Post “free on curb” in your local Facebook Marketplace or Nextdoor group. Furniture, working electronics, and kids’ toys usually disappear within hours. Put everything at the curb with a “FREE” sign before posting. Remove the post once items are gone.
Junk Removal
For everything that’s left — broken furniture, old mattresses, worn-out appliances, and the random stuff nobody wants — you need it hauled away. Toledo’s regular trash pickup won’t take large items without scheduling bulk pickup, and the wait can be 2–3 weeks.
