You booked the junk truck. Now what? A little prep before we arrive saves you time, money, and the “wait, not that one!” moment. Here’s how to make pickup day go smoothly.
📋 Before Pickup Day
1. Decide what goes — and what stays
Walk through every room and tag or mark items for removal. The most common regret: “I should have added that old dresser while you were here.” Do one thorough pass now so you don’t need a second trip.
2. Separate donations from junk
If items are in working condition, consider donating them first. Goodwill, Habitat ReStore, and Salvation Army all have Toledo-area drop-off locations. Anything they won’t take — that’s our department.
3. Check for hazardous items
We can’t take some things by law:
- Paint cans (unless completely dried out)
- Chemical containers (pesticides, solvents, motor oil)
- Propane tanks
- Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials
- Medical waste
Lucas County has household hazardous waste collection events for these items. Everything else — furniture, appliances, electronics, construction debris, yard waste — we handle.
🏠 On Pickup Day
4. Stage items near the door or in the driveway
The faster we can load, the faster we’re done. If it’s safe and practical, move smaller items to the garage, driveway, or front porch. Heavy items (couches, appliances) can stay where they are — that’s what we’re here for.
5. Clear a path
Make sure we can get a clear path from the items to the truck. Move cars out of the driveway, prop doors open, and clear hallways. Narrow stairs or tight corners are fine — just let us know so we bring the right crew size.
6. Be present (or designate someone)
Someone needs to be on-site to confirm the price and point out what goes. We give you an exact quote before we start — no surprises — but we need a “yes, take it” before we load.
💰 How to Save Money
- Combine items: One trip with a full load is cheaper per-item than two trips with small loads. Add everything you can in one go.
- Remove it yourself first: If you can break down a deck or disassemble a shed, we charge less for loose debris than demolition + haul.
- Text a photo first: We give accurate quotes from photos. No surprise fees, no “well, it looks bigger in person” upcharges.
- Check our deals page for current discounts.
✅ After Pickup
We sweep up after ourselves. Your space should be clean and empty when we leave. If it’s not, tell us — we’ll make it right before we go.
