Wondering if we can take that thing? Here’s the definitive list of what I-HAUL can and can’t haul in the Toledo area, including Ohio-specific disposal rules.
✅ Yes, We Take These
Furniture
Couches, recliners, mattresses, bed frames, dressers, desks, tables, chairs, bookshelves, entertainment centers, dining sets, patio furniture — all of it. We handle the heavy lifting.
Appliances
Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, stoves, ovens, water heaters. Freon-containing units require certified disposal, which we handle at no extra charge.

Construction & Renovation Debris
Drywall, lumber, flooring, roofing, cabinets, fixtures, tile, carpet. Popular with Toledo-area contractors. See construction debris removal →
Miscellaneous
Exercise equipment, hot tubs (we demo and haul), above-ground pools, pianos, safes, file cabinets, office furniture, warehouse contents, storage unit cleanouts, boxes of random stuff you’ve been avoiding for years.
❌ We Can’t Take These
Ohio regulations and safety requirements prevent us from hauling:
- Hazardous chemicals: Paint, solvents, pesticides, acids, bleach, cleaning chemicals in bulk
- Medical waste: Needles, sharps, biohazard materials
- Asbestos: Requires certified abatement — common in older Toledo homes (pre-1980). If you suspect asbestos, get it tested before any renovation or demolition.
- Tires: Ohio has specific tire disposal regulations. Take them to a tire dealer or Lucas County Solid Waste.
- Propane tanks & compressed gas: Return to a certified dealer or exchange program (Blue Rhino, AmeriGas).
- Ammunition & explosives: Contact Toledo Police for safe disposal.
🏢 Where to Dispose of Hazardous Items in Toledo
- Lucas County Solid Waste Management District: Household hazardous waste collection events (paint, chemicals, batteries)
- Toledo Recycles: Electronics, appliances, scrap metal drop-off
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore: Usable building materials, cabinets, fixtures
