Storm damage, a landscaping project, or just years of neglect — yard waste piles up fast. Toledo has options, but they all have limits.
🌿 What Counts as Yard Waste
- Brush & branches: Tree limbs, hedge trimmings, shrub cuttings
- Leaves & grass: Bagged or loose clippings, raked leaf piles
- Stumps & roots: After tree removal or grinding
- Dirt & sod: Excavation soil, old lawn sections
- Landscaping debris: Old mulch, decorative stone, pavers, retaining wall blocks
- Storm damage: Fallen limbs, wind-damaged fencing mixed with branches
🏠 City of Toledo Curbside Pickup
Toledo’s curbside yard waste collection runs April through mid-December. The rules:
- Branches must be cut to 4 feet or less and bundled
- Leaves and grass in paper yard waste bags (not plastic)
- Max 10 bags or bundles per pickup
- No stumps, dirt, rocks, or construction debris
- Pickup is on your regular trash day
That 10-bag limit is the catch. If you did a real cleanup — took out a hedge, cleared brush after a storm, or ripped out old landscaping — you’re way past 10 bags.
🚚 Lucas County Transfer Station
You can haul yard waste yourself to the Lucas County Solid Waste facility on Hoffman Road. They charge by weight — typically $45–$65 per ton for clean yard waste. Stumps and dirt are accepted but may cost more.
The downside: you need a truck or trailer, and you’re spending your Saturday loading, driving, and unloading. For a single truckload it makes sense. For multiple loads, the math tips toward hiring a crew.
💪 When to Call a Junk Removal Crew
Hire it out when:
- You have more than a truck bed’s worth of debris
- There are stumps or heavy root balls involved
- The pile includes mixed waste (branches + old fencing + dirt)
- You physically can’t load it yourself
- You need it done same-day (city pickup is weekly at best)
We handle all yard waste types including stumps, dirt, and mixed landscaping debris. No sorting required — we load, haul, and dispose at the right facility.
💲 What Yard Waste Removal Costs
- Small pile (1–2 cubic yards, fits in a pickup bed): $100–$175
- Medium pile (3–5 cubic yards, small trailer load): $200–$350
- Large pile (half-truck or more): $350–$500
- Stump removal: $150–$400 depending on size and root system
- Full yard cleanout (multiple debris types): $400–$700
