That dead fridge in the garage or the washer that finally gave up — getting rid of large appliances is one of the most common junk removal headaches. They’re heavy, awkward, and you can’t just leave them at the curb. Here are your options in the Toledo area.
❄️ Option 1: Retailer Haul-Away
If you’re buying a new appliance, most retailers (Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy) offer haul-away of the old one for $25–$50 at delivery. This is the easiest option if you’re already buying a replacement.
Limitation: They only take the appliance they’re replacing, and it must be disconnected and accessible. They won’t haul an extra fridge from the basement.
♻️ Option 2: Scrap Metal Recycling
Old appliances contain steel, copper, and aluminum. Toledo-area scrap yards will take them, and you might get $5–$20 per appliance depending on metal prices and weight.
Local options:
- Toledo Metal Recycling
- Metalico (East Toledo)
- Simon Metal Management
Catch: You need to transport the appliance yourself. Loading a 300-pound fridge into a truck bed is a two-person job at minimum, and a back injury waiting to happen.
💚 Option 3: Donate It (If It Works)
Working appliances can go to:
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore (accepts working appliances, may offer pickup)
- Goodwill (some locations accept small appliances only)
- Local Facebook Marketplace / Buy Nothing groups — list it as free pickup and it’ll usually be gone within hours
Key rule: Only donate appliances that actually work. Charities don’t want your broken dishwasher — it costs them money to dispose of it.
🚮 Option 4: City Bulk Pickup
The City of Toledo offers bulk item pickup for residents, but it’s limited and requires scheduling in advance. Appliances containing refrigerant (fridges, AC units, freezers) need special handling — the Freon must be professionally drained before disposal.
Wait times can be 2–4 weeks depending on demand, and there are limits on how many items per pickup.
🚚 Option 5: Professional Junk Removal
This is where we come in. I-HAUL JUNK picks up any appliance, working or not, from wherever it sits — basement, garage, second floor, you name it.
| Appliance | I-HAUL Price |
|---|---|
| Single appliance (washer, dryer, dishwasher) | $89–$129 |
| Refrigerator / freezer (Freon removal included) | $129–$169 |
| Multiple appliances (2–4 units) | $179–$329 |
| Whole kitchen / laundry room swap | $329–$449 |
We handle disconnection (except gas — that requires a licensed plumber), Freon-certified removal for refrigerants, and responsible recycling. Most appliances we pick up get recycled, not landfilled.
