Before you throw everything in a dumpster, take 30 minutes to sort. A surprising amount of the stuff you’re getting rid of can be donated, recycled, or sold — and some of it has to be disposed of properly.
🏠 Donation Drop-Off Spots in Toledo
Goodwill (multiple locations)
- Accepts: Clothing, shoes, kitchenware, small furniture, books, working electronics
- Does NOT accept: Mattresses, large appliances, broken items, car seats, paint
- Tip: If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, Goodwill doesn’t want it either
Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Toledo)
- Accepts: Cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, light fixtures, tools, hardware, appliances (working)
- Great for: Remodel leftovers, contractor overstock, estate cleanout items
- Bonus: They offer free pickup for large items in the Toledo area
St. Vincent de Paul (Toledo)
- Accepts: Furniture (good condition), household items, clothing
- They also do pickups — call to schedule
♻️ Recycling Drop-Offs
Lucas County Solid Waste Management
- Electronics: TVs, monitors, computers, printers — free drop-off at scheduled e-waste events
- Tires: Up to 10 per visit, free, at the transfer station
- Appliances with refrigerant: (Fridges, AC units, dehumidifiers) — must have refrigerant removed first ($25–$50 at appliance shops)
- Scrap metal: Toledo has multiple scrap yards (Lakeshore Recycling, Padnos) that pay by the pound
💰 Sell It Instead
If it’s worth more than $20, spend 5 minutes listing it:
- Facebook Marketplace: Fastest for furniture, tools, and appliances in Toledo
- OfferUp: Good for smaller items and electronics
- Garage sale: Still works for neighborhoods with foot traffic
- Estate sale company: If you have a whole house of stuff, they handle pricing, selling, and cleanup for a percentage
🚫 What Can’t Be Donated or Recycled
Some things just need to go to the landfill or require special disposal:
- Mattresses and box springs (most charities won’t take them)
- Broken furniture (not structurally sound)
- Old paint, chemicals, and solvents (HHW collection events)
- Water-damaged or moldy items
- Construction debris (C&D goes to the transfer station)
This is where we come in. We haul whatever’s left after you’ve donated and sold what you can. We sort on the truck — anything recyclable goes to the right place, not the landfill.
📱 Need a Hand?
If you’ve got a mixed load — some donate, some trash, some “I don’t know” — text us a photo. We’ll sort it for you and make sure the good stuff goes to the right place.
